What are Interdisciplinary Studies?

What does Interdisciplinary Studies mean?

Many people don’t know what the term “Interdisciplinary Studies” means. Interdisciplinary means that our students take courses from all of the disciplines that can inform their area of research, including humanities (e.g., history, religious studies, philosophy, languages), social sciences (e.g., criminal justice, communication studies, sociology, psychology), and physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, geology, biology). For example, someone with an interest in sustainability could take courses in geography, history, religious studies, biology, sociology, and philosophy, to name just a few areas!

How will this help me get a job?

Someone with this degree shows an entrepreneurial spirit that is going to make you stand out over your peers. Further, we know that these degrees increase critical thinking, creative problem solving, and communication skills. The traditional way of choosing a major and focusing on one discipline simply may be outdated as far as understanding how people actually make money.
